What we now call "traditional Asturian dress is the dress of the peasant classes of the national bourgeoisie of the late nineteenth century set itself, which corresponds to a period ranging from the eighteenth century to the last decades of the century. Around this clothing have been built a series of myths that still exist and will be discussed in the course of this conference.


Fe Santoveña Zapatero has a degree in Geography and History from the University of Oviedo and is currently finishing her studies in Social and Cultural Anthropology at the UNED. Great expert culture and traditional music of Asturias, as part of collective Muyeres and the Corex and has published several articles on the clothing of Asturias.

The exhibition "Fashion Parading" is a careful selection of textiles that ample funds pueblu Museu d'Asturies has rescued over the past twenty years, and reflects the profound changes experienced by the dress of the women of Asturias. But the process of selection, management and public presentation of the pieces that make up was actually the culmination of a more complex and lengthy, a crucial aspect of which was precisely the restoration of the costumes exposed towards an ultimate goal that the visitors can see today with the same freshness they had a hundred, seventy or fifty years, when someone made without imagining that one day would be considered cultural heritage.


The restoration work of the dresses and accessories that make this evocative displays have been developed by Mary Lee King, Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia and a specialist in conservation and restoration of cultural property.
