Unemployment is growing constantly. In the last quarter of 2010 unemployment rose by 121,900 (17,300 in Catalunya) to reach a total of 4,696,600 of people unemployed in the whole state, of which 686,000 in Catalunya

Moreover social aid dispensing the Catalan government, including the Minimum Insertion Income , are of sufficient economic value and benefit only a small proportion of citizens who have basic needs ( 22,068 records in December 2009), when relative poverty, hit nearly 19% of the population in Catalonia.

The ridiculousness of social assistance in Catalonia is evident when compared with those provided in other regions such as Euzkadi (see table).

For these reasons, we call on all workers unemployed and caring citizens, to focus on defending our just demands, on Tuesday, March 1, at 11 am in Plaza Sant Jaume de Barcelona.

With the introduction of this portrait, the Museo Casa Natal de Jovellanos initiated a program of exhibitions aimed to present the works recently acquired for the future Museum of Gijon. The aim of the new museum, to be installed in the former tobacco factory, is to narrate the history of the city, its social, economic and cultural development, artistic creation as a thread.
Portrait of Luis Truan Lugeon, oil on canvas painted by Silbain Leclercq in 1884, has been donated by Conrado Truan. This work will form the core exhibition dedicated to the industrial arts, which acquired an extraordinary force in the nineteenth Gijón with the installation of the glass factory "Industry" (1844) and china "La Asturiana" (1874). These centers were critical to the economic development of the city and its vital contribution to the progress of English industrial arts.


Luis Truan, along with Mariano Pola and Anselmo Cifuentes, he founded the glass factory "Industry." Of Swiss origin, was responsible for the technical management of the factory, while their wives were in charge of administrative management.

In this work, although it is a posthumous portrait based on a photograph, it is evident that the painter had knowledge of the model, under whom he worked at the factory Gijon. Leclercq was Silbain operator "Industry", where he lost an eye, so had to abandon his profession and devote himself to painting. A group of members of the Assembly Standing from Barcelona have interrupted the full City Council and have been evicted from the town hall by members of the Guardia Urbana.
